Antique Edwardian English Grocers Shop Advertising Display Jar – Wright & Sons Biscuits
Wonderful and scarce shop counter top advertising jar for Wright & Sons biscuits, dating from the early 1900s.
At the time this was produced, food stuffs were sold loosely. So jars like these would have sat proudly on display in grocers stores, showing off the food that was for sale.
Complete with its original lid, the front of the jar features white acid etched writing with the makers’ name in lovely font ‘Wright and Son Ltd’, which is nicely framed with decoration.
Considering it’s age, this antique advertising piece is in superb condition. They very often have chips and nibbles to the top rims but this is completely clean, and there are no signs of damage to the jar.
The original aluminium lid has some minor dents to it but these aren’t overly notable and it is otherwise in very clean condition.
There are some scuff marks to the base of the jar from where it would have moved around on a shop counter. There also appear to be some water marks on the bottom half of the jar, which are inside. These are more notable on the inside of the base.
Overall, it is a wonder piece of antique advertising which would look fantastic proudly displaying food in a kitchen setting. It is also a highly collectable piece.
