Antique Scottish Stoneware 4lb Butter Crock for Maypole Dairy
A fabulous example of a two tone stoneware butter crock, dating from the 1910s, featuring early advertising for the Maypole Dairy Company.
This two tone beige crock features black transfer print script for the Maypole Dairy Co, and includes their trademark image of children dancing around a maypole. On the side, a 4lb mark is impressed, denoting its size.
This is an excellent example of early 20th Century advertising and would make a great display piece or a feature storage jar or planter.
As with most antique and vintage items, this has some very minor wear commensurate with the age of the piece. There are two tiny chips around the rim of the crock and also a small chip on the base. There are also some drips in the glaze, which is an imperfection of the glazing process and common with stoneware items.
Height, 14cm; Diameter, 18cm; Width (with handle), 22cm.
