Antique Victorian Commemorative Plate Celebrating the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Victoria
This is a beautiful example of an antique Victorian plate commissioned to celebrate the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Victoria who, at the time, was the UK’s longest reigning monarch.
Dating from 1897, this plate is in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks. It features pictorial displays of some of the Queen’s main residences, which are still used by the Royal family now. It is decorated with roses, thistles and clovers, the National flowers of England, Scotland and Ireland, to demonstrate the Union of these countries at the time. Typically Victorian in its style, different typography is used in the different sections of the plate.
Having aged over the years, this plate has a wonderful timeworn charm to it. There is crazing all over, some of which has very lightly stained. But otherwise it is in excellent condition still and is a lovely decorative piece.
