Antique Early 20th Century French Terrine Pot – Rarely Seen Original Label for Doyen Foie Gras of Strasbourg

antique early 20th century french white ironstone terrine foie gras pot doyen strasbourg lions heads

A lovely early 20th Century antique white ironstone packaging terrine pot for Doyen foie gras.

This is a great example of an antique advertising white ironstone pot for French goose liver pate with truffles. The pot features the original printed label, which is largely in tact, together with the protective metal liner inside.

This terrine pot is highly detailed, with lion’s heads at each side of the base, and a decorated integrated handle on the top of the lid. This type of exquisite detail typifies French advertising pieces.

Considered a throwaway item at the time it was produced, this French advertising pot is in surprisingly good condition. There is crazing and staining to the base of the pot, as well as wear to the top of the pot from use. The original label has a small section missing but this is a fairly minimal loss to the border and all of the text is still clearly legible. These flaws also add to the timeworn charm of the piece.
