Set of Five Antique French Toleware Kitchen Storage Canisters in Striking Pillarbox Red & Teal Green

1930s antique Meredith Drew glass shop counter advertising display jar

A rare and striking set of five French kitchen storage canisters, dating from the early 20th Century, in pillarbox red and contrasting teal green.

This is a wonderful French vintage set of storage tins, which were likely made for a Boardeaux confectioners called Perrain, whose name features on the base of each tin. Although they are worn and rustic, the vibrancy of the colours of these tins are just wonderful, with the red and green contrasting beautifully against the gold trim and the black labels.

There are five tins in this set in total, for ‘Sucre’ (sugar), ‘Pates’ (pasta), ‘Chicoree’ (chicory), ‘Farine’ (flour) and ‘Cafe’ (coffee). All show signs of wear and age, with dents, scratches and oxidisation. Yet the labels are still very clear.

I would suggest that these items are better on display as part of a shabby chic rustic kitchenalia display, or for use for styling as a vintage prop, rather than day to day use.

Each tin is 16cm high, and 11cm in diameter.
