Large Antique French White Ironstone Dairy or Butter Bowl by Sarregumines
A very rare large French white ironstone banded dairy or butter bowl, in excellent condition with beautiful barrel band detailing.
Made by Sarreguemines, of France, in the late 1800s or very early 1900s, this is a great large sized banded dairy bowl. Highly sought after by collectors, since they look fabulous on display, these large dairu bowls – which would have been used the make butter – are getting harder to find. They are ideal fo use as fruit bowls or for chilling wine or champagne. Alternatively, they display well with flowers or plants in them.
This French butter bowl is crafted beautifully. The rope tied handles are in mint condition with just some general wear and the barrel effect banding around the outside finishes the piece off perfectly.
Considering the age of this piece, it is in fantastic condition. There is light age crazing all over, although this is more notable on the inside of the bowl. There is some general wear to the base rim, plus some age spots and minor scuffs to the inside. There is a surface crack to the glaze on the base but this does not penetrate through. Some white paint has been spilled inside the base. This doesn’t detract, as it can’t be seen. However, it is possible this could be scraped away.
