Antique Early 20th Century Large Two Pound French Confiture Pot – Felix Potin Sepia Print Transfer
This is a listing for a rare French confiture advertising pot for Felix Potin, dating from around 1900.
Dating from the very start of the 20th Century, this French ironstone advertising pot is a scarce survivor and has a uniquely timeworn coffee coloured patina to it.
The Felix Potin jam or confiture pots came in a range of different styles. This sepia coloured transfer features the factories where the jam was produced. The timeworn colouring on this example really blends in with the print, which is still exceptionally clear. The pot itself is very heavy and sturdy, a signature of the French examples.
This large two pound Confiture pot is a nice weathered example, with a fabulous worn patina. Considered throwaway items at the time, this was recently dug up from an old French dumping ground. This antique French pot therefore bears some of the scars of its time underground, most notably through darker coffee coloured staining all over.
Remarkably, though, the pot is otherwise in very good condition, with just a small chip to the base of the pot at the front which is about 7mm in length. There are no other chips or cracks.
Bearing the imprinted F.P initials on its base, together with the size marker (0.25 kilos), this is a fabulous example of an antique French marmalade pot. It would make a great starter piece in a collection and they are also ideal for use around the home used as vases.
