Antique Edwardian White Ironstone The Gourmet Company Egg Beater No.2 With Its Original Whisk

1930s antique Meredith Drew glass shop counter advertising display jar

A wonderful piece of white ironstone antique kitchenalia, a Gourmet Company Egg Beater No.2, with its original beater, dating from the late Victorian/early Edwardian period.

This Gourmet Egg beater is in excellent antique condition. In the smaller of the sizes (they went up to size 5, which was 23 cm tall!) produced by The Gourmet Company at the end of the nineteenth Century/beginning of the twentieth Century, this white ironstone egg beater would have commonly been used in households at the time. These white ironstone egg beaters are difficult to find with their original beaters, so this is a rare example. I can just imagine a larger version being used downstairs in Downton Abbey!

This antique egg beater is in excellent condition. The makers’ mark of The Gourmet Company is still very clear, in black transfer print across the front of the beater. There are no chips, cracks or crazing, just some odd surface scratches are notable on close inspection. Both the top and bottom rims have some aged discoloration, as can be normal with white ironstone pieces. The varnish on the wooden handled beater has worn, although this could be retouched if required. There are also some minor patches of oxidisation on the metal too, although it is still usable.

Overall Height, 22cm; Height of Cylinder, 14cm; Diameter of Cylinder, 6.5cm; Length of Beater, 20.5cm
