Edwardian Large White Ironstone Banded Butter Dish in Mint Condition
This is a very large rare Edwardian white barrel banded ironstone butter dish, complete with its original lid, in excellent condition.
In Edwardian times, butter dishes were used commonly to keep butter cool. This large version would probably have been used in the kitchen of a large household.
Dating from the early 1900s, this butter dish is in fantastic condition. There is no crazing, chips or cracks and the black transfer print is still very clear.
The only sign of its age are some minor age spots on the lid and handles, and some mild staining the the edge of the top rim and lid. This is a result of dairy use, causing grease marks. However, this is very mild compared to butter dishes of a similar age.
With a barrel banded effect surrounding the butter dish, this is a very handsome piece of antique kitchenalia. The white ceramic is still very strong in its colour, as is the black transfer print. It’s perfectly usable in a kitchen today, or would look great on display.
