Antique Early 20th Century Chip Carved English Bread Board Featuring the St George Cross
A nice chip carved treen wooden breadboard, dating from the early to mid 20th Century, with lovely honey colouring and rich patination.
This breadboard is a lovely usable piece of antique kitchenalia. Chip carved with a the St George’s Cross at its base and two pieces of wheat meeting at the top, the carving is simple but with some nice points of interest.
The board sits perfectly flat, so is an excellent piece to use day to day as well. There are knife marks from use, and there is some wear to the board from use. However, these have given the board and honest, timeworn patina, and the colouring has a rich, honey dew to it. There are a couple of small knocks to the board in places, and some wax marks on the back where it has been in contact with wax when the front of the board was polished. However, this doesn’t affect its use in any way and could also be waxed if desired.
