Antique Early 20th Century Carved English Bread Board with Decorative Leaf Border

antique early 20th century english deeply carved treen wooden bread board leaf border

A wonderful example of an English carved breadboard, featuring a nice and deeply carved leaf pattern around the border.

These English carved treen breadboards are becoming rarer and rarer to source, especially in good condition with the carving still sharp and deep. This is a lovely example.

It is quite common for breadboards to have leaves decorating their borders, but this pattern stands out from these due to the depth of the carving and with the leaves linked together.

Dating from the early to mid 20th Century, this bread board is in excellent condition and sits flat. It has been used, as evidenced by the knife marks, but these are fairly light and the leaves around the border have not worn considerably.

There are some dents to the board in the centre from use, and also a small dent to a small part of the edge of the board which has now worn with age. These don’t affect the use of the board in any way.

The board has been waxed, which has given the board an overall richer colouring, and there are some small areas where the wax has touched the back of the board. If desired, the back could also be waxed but this isn’t necessary.

Overall, this carved antique bread board is perfect for display as part of a breadboard or kitchenalia collection.
