Antique Early 20th Century Bourne Denby Stoneware Storage Jar for Sago
A highly collectable early 20th Century stoneware storage jar for SAGO, in good condition with its original lid, made by Bourne Denby.
These stoneware storage jars were popular in the early part of the twentieth Century, when foodstuffs were often sold in loose measures in local grocers shops. The “SAGO” label on this pot is still very clear, and stands proudly on a contrasting white raised label.
This jar is in good overall condition considering its age. There are no cracks. There is some chipping, focussed around the top of the rim and the lid, which would have occurred from daily use in the kitchen. There is one chip to the top of the pot towards the back, and several chips to the edge of the lid, one of which is more significant and measures about 1.5cm along the rim.
However, these faults are not too significant and do not detract from the timeworn charm of an antique piece of kitchenalia like this.
