Antique 1920s Grimwades Hygienic Drainer – Plain White Ironstone Drainer Plate
A highly collectable antique small white ironstone drainer, dating from the early 20th Century.
This is a great piece of collectable kitchenalia. Grimwades patented its white ironstone pieces of kitchen equipment in the early part of the 20th Century. They would most commonly use their trademark green transfer print to highlight both the benefits of their products and to instruct customers on how they should be used.
Ceramic drainers like this were usually placed in sinks or on deep plates to help wash fruit and vegetables. In modern times, these are a great cute size which make excellent items to display around the kitchen.
The text reads:
“The Grimwade – Patent Hygienic Drainer. Convex Flutes. Bevel Edge Holes. Made in England”
This example is in excellent overall condition, especially considering its age. There are no cracks or chips on the piece. and the main signs of age are some patches of light crazing all over. The green transfer print advertising is still nice and clear.
