Antique 1930s English Bread Knife or Slicer with Carved Wheat Handle By Joseph Rodgers, Cutlers to the Royal Household

A fantastic example of a large and nicely carved early 20th Century bread knife, with nice wheat detail.
This steel bladed carved bread knife, dating from the 1930s is a great example of the craftsmanship that went into producing carved treen items at the time. Produced by Joseph Rodgers & Sons, who were cutlers to the Royal household, this is a quality piece which has been handmade, as evidenced by the join to the blade.
The wheat detail on the handle is nicely carved and has a lovely finial end. It has worn a little with age, but this has produced a nice warm and mellow patina. It is joined to a steel blade bearing the Rodgers makers mark. The steel has oxidised from contact with water over the years, as is common with these types of knives.
Length, 30cm; Width, 3cm at widest point on handle and blade.
