Rare Antique 1930s Maling Evergreen Banded Ironstone Storage Jar for Castor Sugar
A fantastic example of a rare banded green and white ironstone ‘Castor Sugar’ jar made by Maling in the early 20th Century.
Dating from the 1930s, this is a scarcely seen part of the Evergreen range produced by Maling. It was intended to rival the increasingly popular cornishwear range. However, the brand didn’t take off to the same extent and so it is very difficult to find these pots now.
This kitchen canister is in lovely clean condition. I particularly like the fact that the spelling of castor sugar is in its original form (whereas ‘caster’ has taken over in more recent times). The green colouring is just as vibrant as when it was produced.
Considering its age, this white ironstone pot is in excellent condition. There are some minor nibbles to the handle and inside rim of the top of the lid. There is also some mild staining to the underside of the lid and base of the pot from where it has been used and come into contact with fats. Some of this staining has seeped through to the base of the pot on the outside, however this isn’t overly notable. And overall the pot is in very clean condition.
