Antique 1930s Solid Sycamore Butchers Fat Basher or Chopping Block by G Rushbrooke of Smithfield
A great sized heavy duty butchers shop basher made by renowned shop outfitters, G Rushbrooke (Smithfield) Ltd in the early 20th Century.
Dating from around the 1930s, this solid sycamore wooden basher was intended to be used in butchers shop to bash and shape meat. It is a solid, weighty and heavy duty item, ideal for use now as a small chopping block or for serving meats or cheeses.
This board has a wonderful advertising plaque centrally at the front of the board for G Rushbrooke, and features their address in Smithfield, London.
In excellent condition, the board has a wonderful rich colour to it. Having previously been used as a chopping block, there are knife marks from use but this has created a unique and timeworn patina. It has a large brass loop attached to the handle, allowing it to be hung on the wall.
