1920s Carved English Bread Board – Advertising Allinson Bread
;;;A lovely example of antique advertising in the form of a carved wooden breadboard for Allinson Bread, dating from the 1920s.
Circular carved wooden bread boards were very popular in the early part of the twentieth Century, often given as wedding gifts. Capitalising on their popularity, Allinson, a well known flour producer in the United Kingdom, produced these bread boards as an opportunity to advertise their own produce.
This is a lovely example of an antique breadboard, with the lettering and carving still clearly visible. It sits nice and flat, and with regular waxing over the years, it has a stunningly rich patina and colour to it. The back of the board has remained unwaxed.
Overall, this board is in excellent condition and is great to either display or use regularly. There is evidence of wear to the bread board, with carving marks clearly visible, but these are mainly on the back of the board rather than the front. They also add to the charm of the piece. There is a scorch mark on the side of the back of the board but this isn’t visible from the front.
